There is little doubt that there would be great collective benefit in achieving multilateral agreement on research priorities. However, with so much self-interest operating in the field, achieving any kind of coordination that leverages resources and tackles entrenched global health problems through united effort is a monumental political challenge. Meetings like this forum can begin to make a difference by bringing together policymakers who are in a position to identify bilateral and trilateral agendas that begin to breakdown the walls of research silos.
