Connect with Global Health Policy Bamako 2008

This meeting was highlighted on THDBlog. The 2008 Global Ministerial Forum on Research for Health will be held from November 17-19, 2008 in Bamako, Mali. Space is limited so keep an eye on the web page for announcements. A call for papers will be issued in February.

If you have a relevant paper in the pipeline, this may be a good time to put the old nose to the grindstone and make some progress toward a submission. Opportunities to connect with high level policymakers don't come along everyday.

The discussion of research agendas is all too abbreviated in the global health community. There is little doubt that there would be great collective benefit in achieving multilateral agreement on research priorities. However, with so much self-interest operating in the field, achieving any kind of coordination that leverages resources and tackles entrenched global health problems through united effort is a monumental political challenge. Meetings like this forum can begin to make a difference by bringing together policymakers who are in a position to identify bilateral and trilateral agendas that begin to breakdown the walls of research silos.

What an opportunity to make a huge difference in global health.
